A Lawrenceville man has been charged with a felony after authorities say he pointed a laser into the cockpit of a medical helicopter damaging the eyes of the nurse onboard.

According to information filed in the case, on August 12, 2014 at Richland Memorial Hospital, located at 800 East Locust St., Olney, Devin M. Smith, 23, of 1603 10th St., Lawrenceville, knowingly committed the offense of Aggravated Battery when he aimed and discharged a LASER into the cockpit of the medical helicopter thus causing damage to the eyes of Whitney Vonderhaar.

No bond information was available in the case.

Smith was first arrested last summer and charged with a misdemeanor Aiming a LASER at an Aircraft.

That charge has apparently been enhanced by circumstances not listed in the charges.

Injures face, arms, legs

Repeat offender Mark D. Gosnell, 50, of 410 West Elm St., Olney, has ben charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor after authorities say he was involved in a domestic.

According to information filed in the case, on April 18, at his home Gosnell committed the offense of Domestic Battery when made physical contact with household member Dena Gosnell causing injuries to her face, arms and legs.

Gosnell was convicted of domestic battery in Lawrence County January 21, 1999.

He is also charged with Unlawful Interference with the Reporting of Domestic Violence when he allegedly broke Dena Gosnell’s phone in an attempt to keep her from calling 911.

A charge of Unlawful Restraint has also been filed alleging Gosnell then unlawfully detains Dena Gosnell refusing to allow her to leave the residence.

Apparently in a bit more than a foul humor, Gosnell went on to earn himself a charge of Criminal Damage to Government Property.

He also has a pending case in Richland from February 28, in which he is charged with Unlawful Possession of Cannabis.

Cash bond in the case was set at $2,000.

Conditions of that bond include Gosnell not be in the presence of Dena Gosnell or at the 410 West Elm Street residence until further order of the court.
