RICHLAND CO., Ill.--Appointed tonight at the Richland County Republicans meeting was the new state's attorney to replace resigning David Hyde.
Hyde's successor will be the current Richland and Lawrence counties' public defender, Charles Bradley Vaughn.
Brad Vaughn is a high-profile attorney in Olney, whose work for some of those accused of sometimes-ridiculous crime in Richland and Lawrence over the years has prompted some of the best criminal defense we've seen throughout the coverage area.
This will no doubt translate to an astute state's attorney, as Vaughn has a well-rounded understanding of the law in the state of Illinois.
We congratulate Vaughn, as well as the Richland County Republicans for an excellent choice. Vaughn will hold the office until the next election, November 2016, at which time he might choose to run again (were we to be so fortunate).
