RICHLAND CO.— A violent Olney man who was charged in March of this year with beating a household member is now the subject of an Order of Protection preventing him from having contact with his parents and a large portion of his family.
In March, Tyler W. Leaf, 38, of Olney, was charged with Domestic Battery with prior convictions and Aggravated Domestic Battery/Strangulation after authorities say while at the 1400 block of East Laurel St., Olney, he made physical contact with Cam Leaf, a household member, when he slammed a door on his left arm, choked him and punched him in the right eye causing the eye to swell.
A two-year plenary OP was granted August 7 on behalf of Leaf’s father, Jerold P. Leaf.
Protected individuals listed in the order include his mother Amelia L. Leaf, 57, his brother Ashby Leaf, 36, as well as Cam Leaf, 20 and Alexia Leaf, 18.
In the petition for the OP, Jerold Leaf told authorities that his son has not taken his medication for a diagnosed bi-polar disorder since he got out of rehab July 31, 2015.
Leaf said that on his son’s first day out of jail (July 31) he came to his house and was pecking on a bedroom window.
Then on August 2 Tyler was found laying on the concrete across the street from his father’s house, located at 1419 East Laurel St., Olney.
Tyler was said to be found doing the same thing the next day.
Then in the early morning hours of Aug. 5 Leaf said his son was inside his house.
Leaf said he took his son to the hospital the next day, Aug. 5, because he said he was hearing voices and they were telling him to “kill them.”
Then on Aug. 7 he said Tyler had called for a ride to the local IGA saying he needed to make a trip to get food and a Mountain Dew.
And when that didn’t happen, Leaf said his son showed up at his house asking for a ride to IGA.
Leaf said he was concerned about his wife because she has fragile health and cannot be put under such stress.
Tyler W. Leaf started getting into trouble with the law in 1997 when he was convicted of his first DUI for which he was sentenced court supervision for 12 months.
The next year, 1998 he earned a 60-day jail stay and two years probation after being convicted of yet another DUI.
He was arrested and charged in 2003 with one count each of Home Invasion By Force, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Aggravated Battery Causing Great Bodily Harm.
Found guilty on the agg batt charge, he was sentenced to the county jail for 85 days and probation for two years.
He picked up his third DUI in 2008, earning a sentence of 14 days in jail and 18 months probation.
In 2010 he was charged with Harassment by Electronic Communication/Threat/Kill, two counts of Violation of an Order of Protection and Driving Revoked.
Convicted on the harassment and driving revoked charges, he was sentenced to 27 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
